Spa awh Day

My best bud Debbie and I decided no Xmas gifts for each other this year instead would have a spa day then an over night stay in LA

So we spent the day at the ivy spa with a visit to the grotto, massage, scrub and facial. It was soooo relaxing!

We then headed to west Hollywood where we had a mini suite at the le monterose hotel where we dressed up a bit and headed to nobu for dinner!

This restaurant is owned by Robert dinero and the sashimi was to die for the hot dishes yummy the cocktails filled with champagne!

Dessert was no exception with their firm of tiramisu where they poor hit water thru a press on the freshly made dessert the flavor of the coffee was fabulous!

All in all a great dinner and I would go again. Today brings a quick trip to my doctor here in la then a day of shopping! A very nice relaxing couple of days!!!

Saturday Frustrations

This weekend I have a lot of commitments on my calendar, both work and home. Both work and home have been more demanding. Well work, can't really get into it but suffice to say "It is what it is". Home is more demanding because my Dads showing signs of dementia, his physical condition is going down drastically with falling and mobility issues which in turn as daughters made us sell his care which in turn depressed him. My father has a tendency for depression and with this, along with inactivity causes dementia to creep in which causes his anger. Sometimes its like have a large two year old. He cries about loosing his mind and wants me to get it back. I tried patiently to explain that he does nothing all day to stimulate his mind, sleeping for the most part and locking himself off in his room. These activities cause his "mind issues to worsen". He refused to go to senior center or support groups or to show for that matter. But he does not remember he refuses at times. Its really tough, stressful and a handful. My sister Lindy, who lives here, comes everyday now in the morning while I am at work and my husband Richard takes care of him in the afternoon cause we can't leave him alone for long periods. My sister Lisa is coming monthly to give us a weekend break. Mornings are his worse time I think. So I penciled in on my calendar that I would take him to the movies Saturday and get him out of the house. My sister Lisa told me the theaters have headsets for hard of hearing customers so they can hear the movie better. So .... I woke him up Saturday at 9 am. Lets repeat I had to wake him up five times to get him out of bed. Made him breakfast. He was eating when I left him, then was to take a shower. I went to jump into the shower. I came back 30 mins later, he was BACK IN BED. Ugh Dad, get up, why are you doing? I went back to bed he said. I said we are going to the movies now get up NOW. I had to get really stern. I left to get my coffee, came back, STILL IN BED. I said if you don't get up now, you are not going and you can lay here all day moping about your brain!!!!

I know kinda mean, but its tough. Really tough on me. My kids are grown, it's my time and now I have a child again. I don't resent it, I love him dearly but typing this on my blog really helps.! Anyhow he got up, showered and off we went 35 minutes behind schedule. Got him up to the movie, then to the restroom, then up to a seat and head sets in place.

I ran and got my popcorn, cause I cannot see any movie in a theater without popcorn. Dad grabbed a handful. Now, he can't eat half the things that Richard cooks cause he can't chew them, but he sure can eat popcorn. Go figure. We saw War Horse. I had really wanted to see the play in NYC but didn't make it. The movie was really good. The cinematography was delicious. It was a moving, gone with the wind type movie. Some happy parts, some sad parts but ended right where I though it should. Not so much about war, but about a horse and friendship, loyalty. I loved it. I cried, I laughed and the best part my Dad LOVED it. He thanked me a million times for taking him. So I guess all my frustration earlier in the day paid off to see his enjoyment. So now back to all the other commitments, but glad I had a few hours showing my Dad there is more to life than his room.

Project Life 2012

Well, I can't hardly believe it but I finished my 2011 project life. I absolutely love this project by Becky Higgins. I can't say enough about it. Its great to highlight everyday life and I love love love it.

Mine ended up being two volumes. The second volume is July to December.

I have a little trouble trying to take pics of the pages though. Below is one of the thanksgiving pages. that I love the family word art.

Christmas required two additional inserts to get all my pics in.

I am not so obsessed with getting just the right photo and lighting but more with telling the story.

I love how I can size the pics to fit in this baseball card insert.

Adding a few embellishments here and there.

I used an odd size insert I found in a drawer.

What I really found with project life was the amount of journaling I have done. Much more than I do with my traditional scrapbooking.

I think all my family and friend see me coming and know I am gonna take pics. I have even trained my husband who takes pics for my project life. My iPhone has been used a hundred times this year which is great when my canon is not with me which really helps.

So today I unpack 2012 version. My story, my Way.

Here's to a Fabulous 2012

In the past I have made a New Years Resolution only to be disappointed on 12-31 that I didn't accomplish it. Part of the problem is that I put myself last and everyone else first. My job takes 90% of my time and has for the past 20 Years as 2012 marks the 20th year in practice with GEC. Twenty years ago I thought by this time I would not be working 10 hours a day and would have Fridays off allowing me to enjoy life more. But Alas instead I am work 13 to 14 hours a day five days a week with no hope of having a four day work week. I guess I can only blame myself as I have such a strong work ethic and a friendship that eats at my conscience which prevents me from doing anything less that what I do now. So I have to stop obsessing about it.

But what I will do is go in a little later some days and with my Dad's health and dementia coming on, I will have to not work as late and say NO. That's the biggest problem. Its hard to take over care of a parent when they can no longer care for themselves. Its a daily argument about remembering as he cannot remember well now. He can't processes much at once and is depressed. Its a lot to handle. And since Richard is here the most, I can't leave Dad with him all day and then till 8 pm. So I have to get home sooner.

I hope to spend more times with friends and to travel two new places this year. Looking back on last year I loved my Alaska pictures and my south Dakota pictures. I will be planning a trip to Yellowstone and the grand Tetons to continue my quest to get more stamps in my National Parks Passport book and hopefully take Richard to a night Nascar Race.

So here is to a FABULOUS FABULOUS 2012. I finished every week in my project life book for 2011 and look forward to 2012.

NYC

I finally got around to editing my NYC pictures. Since returning, work have been crazy and my Dad's health/mental status and mobility has drastically worsened both taking all my spare time. Today I have a few hours and filled up my project life book and now I am gonna finish my travel journal. Knowing me thou it will take me two weekends with all the stuff I need to add.

This was my fourth trip to the Big Apple and I can say I never get enough of it. My sister DeDe and my future Daughter in Law Heather joined me and we had a fabulous time. Here are some of my favorite pics. I hope you enjoy.

GEC Xmas Party

Had our GEC xmas party last night at KC Steakhouse. It was the first time I had been there. It was colorfully decorated with an old school vintage feeling. Marilyn of course got her groove on right away.

The band was a mix of old school and saloon music.

All was Merry and Bright.

THANKSGIVING PART DUEX

Had family thanksgiving weekend and everyone just hit the road. It was a wonderful weekend.

The iPhone comes in handy for all the silly shots. Foo Foo came from San Diego with Rebbecca and their friend Rookie. We are always laughing.

I begged my husband and children for a family photo. They refused the weed shot I wanted but at least I got one.

Turkey was served. This is the second one Garrett has now fried, so in his opinion he is an expert.

Our family tradition is to color the mash potatoes. Delaney picked yellow for the color this year.

But the funniest thing was my grand puppy Pepper. She has a bad habit of of jumping up at the table like she's a person, wanting a bite. Garrett gets so mad at me cause I laugh at her and try to take her picture and he forbade me to post the picture below.

But how could I not, she just wanting a little turkey. So so so funny. So Garrett, I am sorry, but I can't help it and promise to try and be a sterner Grammy. Oh so thankful

NYC Travel Journal/December daily inspired

I love following Ali Edwards and have most all of her digital product. Her style is a lot like mine and I love her December Daily project but with work so hectic around the holidays I never quite think I can get it down. I am keeping up with project life thou. For my upcoming NYC trip I made a travel journal that is Ali Edwards December Daily inspired. In fact I made three of them. Here are some of the pages. I did decide not to decorate the cover till I get back as traveling I have found can rough it up a bit. I hope Heather and Dede, who I am going to NYC with like theirs as well.

Today was the first thanksgiving at Garrett's house and Richard and I taught him how to prepare all his favorite foods from the corn bread stuffing he so loves to deep fried turkey. It was a wonderful afternoon and Garrett did a Great Job. They also all humored me smiled for a photo using my self timer. A great day with family.

Family

Funny how births and death seem to get families together. Yesterday was the day we laid Nana to rest. I took a pic, right or wrong but wanted to continue to document everyday life. Project life makes me think about the little things. Even though is was freezing cold, I think Nana would have loved her service. Rebecca wrote a lovely poem and a few songs summed up what everyone was feeling.

I snapped a couple of photos but my camera mostly layer idle, maybe a little depressed as Nana Always took pics. But thankful for all the family I have. I hope they know how much I love them.

My great niece Hanna was sweet and joyful, reminding me a lot of Rachie when she was the same age.

Rachie is just as sweet today as she was wen she was a baby.

So today I know Nana is in a better place and is reunited with those who went before her. We will miss you Nana and your family though separated by distance misses you and will always remember you with found memories.

Remembering Nana

Nana, Richards mother, our children's Nana. She passed away Thursday and for once I know what "she's in a better place" means. She has battled dementia for a few years now and was not the Nana we knew and loved. When I think of Nana the first thing that comes to my mind is the pea soup green blankie below that my so carried around for many many years.

He wouldn't go anywhere without it and his Nana is the one who gave it to him or as she would tell you, he picked out. What was special about it was that the pictures that are on it, my husband painted with liquid embroidery as a child, during times that he had to entertain himself when his brother Michael was in the hospital. Nana had made it into a baby quilt and it's the one Garrett picked. I know Garrett may kill me, but he slept with that blanket, or should I say pieces of the blanket well past adolescence. It gave him comfort. The smell, the feel. It's what Nana did for Garrett when he was a baby a toddler until the age of 5 when baseball took over.

When I was trying to find pictures of Nana with Garrett and Rachel I realized how close Garrett was with Nana the first five years of his life. I have a million pics of Garrett during this time, but very few with Nana in them as she was the one taking them. Changing his clothes and taking more and more pictures.

Here is Nana with her mom, Grandma Nickel, Diana and Rebecca at my wedding. She was beautiful that day.

I found the picture above when Nana was 5 with her Mom and Dad and her brother Jimmy.

Awh Nana and her Garrett below on his second birthday. I was pregnant and in school during this time. Garrett was Nana's constant companion.

Below is Nana and Garrett in Balch Park. They would take the grand kids camping in balch park. This trip, they forgot Garrett's Alf doll and blankie both. Lets just say it was a little rough for a few days without it. That never happened again.

I would go on and on. Rachel spend many days and nights with her Nana too but she was more of a mama's girl. I have boxes and boxes of pictures to go through and many memories to jot down along with them.

So another day will go by and we will think of another memory to tuck away. Richard doesn't talk much about his childhood. What I do know of it is that his childhood, his family, his memories changed with the death of his brother Michael when he was nine. But with Nana's passing, I think he feels that she is finally happy, reuniting with Michael, something she has longed for 49 years.

So tonight I will be remember the mother, the Nana she was. I will always cherish the love she gave to my children, a love only a grandmother can show.

He is just the sweetest little guy. He was born November 1, 2011 at 1:36 am. I our course dragged Tommy upstairs at SJH to see the little guy yesterday before our case started. I of course dragged my big ass camera with me so I could snap a few shows. I almost feel like his Grammy. He is so beautiful and I loved our quick little visit. Enjoy the shots.

Remembering Mom

Gourmet Club this past weekend at the Sutherland abode. Theme was fall. Was a fun time. I of course made a signature cocktail called The Stiletto. Which was only 100 calories and delicious blackberry flavor. Yum.

This Man

There is a lot I could say about this man.... There is a lot I could say to this man that I have never and may never say. There are only a handful of people who have made a big impact on my nursing career. Its no surprise that Tommy Lee is the biggest influence on my career, my life really. But I would have to say the second biggest is Craig Saunders, a cardiothoracic surgeon. The man in this picture. But he would never have ever experienced my wonderfulness if it was not for the third biggest influence which would be Cindy Sumner who was my preceptor but really she shaped me to be the nurse I am today.

I had the opportunity to catch up with Craig last weekend for a little bit. Its been 20 years since he left Bakersfield but seemed like yesterday not nearly 25 years ago. As a brand new nurse in the Open Heart Recovery Unit at BMH. I was the first "new grad" they let start in the unit, Cindy took it upon herself to train me, her way, the right way. Craig scared the shit out of me the first year. He could look at you and I thought I would pass out. I was so afraid I would do something wrong. But he would make a comment about what I was doing, something I did right, explain why he was doing what he was doing and tell me what I did wrong and I slowly gained confidence in my abilities. I wanted to be the best and I knew after two years that I was one of the best. He requested me to take the sickest patients which at times caused a lot of grief with my coworkers. There are times he would leave to go home (i worked the night shift) and say don't call me, handle it and I would. It forced me to be a thinker, to problem solve and figure things out. Something I do today, everyday. I never put a lot of thought into how he influenced me until last week and I just sat there during dinner remembering, thinking. Thankful for his influence.

Lessons Learned

I have learned many new things this year about myself. I am more in tuned with my body since starting bioidentical hormones in January. Trying to be healthier, live longer, feel better. What I have noticed is I no longer can drink alcohol like I used to. It causes total body upheaval like flu but worse. Not sure the mechanism but I was sick all day Saturday with nearly needing to go to the ER from dehydration. Richard was gone but Rachie took care of me. My dad was also is having an emotional upset causing him to feel ill too. Its almost a year since mom died and he is depressed. So I was in bed all day and night. At 2:15 am I was awakened by smoke. I had my window open and I the smoke came into my bedroom. Right outside was a grass fire. Up I flew, called the fire department and went outside with the hose hoping to keep it from spreading to our house. I felt horrible but this is how it looks this morning.

Its still smouldering this morning but glad it was contained. I was worried about Roaree last night as he would not come in and while the fireman were putting our the grass fire Roaree was roaming around their truck. I just knew he was going to get stuck. But he jumped off as they drove away, THANK GOD as Richie would have killed me (he is oot). So not so much fun.

The Orange Glow

Last night as I was driving home the moon was shining in the sky and glowed a pretty orange. I was memorized by the color. It was saying Hello Fall to me.

After getting my Dad fed I ran out side with my camera and tripod to snap a shot. It was not a orange as it had been an hour earlier but pretty nonetheless.

Baby Jackson

I had the pleasure of taking Sally and Mike Shamblins maternity pictures last weekend. I honestly can say I almost feel like Jackson's grammy. Mike is one of my sons best friends and sally almost like a second daughter. Thanks God she let me take them.

I was super nervous as I just like to take pictures as a hobby but I am really happy how they turned out.

It was hot and the sun was blaring down but sally was a trooper. Mike was too. I probably got 30 good shots so over all I cant ask for anything else.

Here's to Sally, a BEAUTIFUL mommy to be and Mike I just know you will be the best Dad ever. I love you both very very much!!!!!

Day Two SD

Day two in South Dakota. We had a great breakfast served by our b&b hot Mark then headed to jewel caves to get another stamp in my national park passport book.

Our next destination was Custer State Park. However on the way we made a pit stop at the National Woodworking Museum. It's very interesting.

Then off to Custer State Park. It was beautiful and big. Halfway through we veered off on the way to Windcave to get another stamp in my passport book when we ran into this majestic site.

Over two hundred Bison up close and personal. All these photos were taken with my iPhone. I can't wait to see the ones I took on my canon 7d!

We also saw antelope, deer, goats, burros and praire dogs. Over all a great day. Today we are off to deadwood. Fun times!

Custer South Dakota

Hi there from South Dakota. We are here to visit Mt Rushmore and the surrounding area as it's something on my bucket list. On arrival the thunder storms rolled in making day 1 a challenge. First stop Cabelas

Richard was in heaven. The bad part is we drove by a hobby lobby and I didn't get to stop! So just had a few laughs

I think it's a good look for me! Any how we then headed to Bear Country USA as my twin said it was the bomb. We had minor pit stop to get rich his beer and ice. Gotta keep him happy. We saw lots f beautiful animals but it was pouring rain and most my pics on my dslr but here's an iPhone shot

We saw over 50 bears some bison,elk,deer,wolves and baby bears but it was really pouring then.

We then headed to Mt Rushmore. I was a little bum bed cause it was pouring but it was still MAJESTIC and we are gonna come back as we will be by there again.

After viewing the mountain and getting our national parks passport books stamped we headed to Custer and Jakes Bed and Breakfast. This place is BEAUTIFUL and I will have to do a blog post later about it. I highly recommend it. Here is one pic of our room.

Happy Feet

Several years ago I made my family their stockings and our tree skirt. Of course it had beats and elk on them. Since Garrett has moved to his new home he wanted stockings and a tree skirt of his own. Of his own design too. His request was a penguin with an Atlanta braves hat.

Well I finally have finished the pattern out of paper of course. I am a long way from the finished product but happy to have the pattern ready so that I can go shopping for the material.

One thing is for sure, He will have a one of a kind stocking. One I hope that each Christmas he puts it up or puts the tree skirt around his tree he will think of his mama.

Whew, where does the time go

Where does the time go? I never ever have enough of it. Part of the reason is how much I work. I know now that is not gonna change. I was hoping someday that I would be able to cut down to four days a week, but this past week it was made perfectly clear by the man in charge that it was not possible, ever! I kinda regret my strong work ethic, my ability to do three peoples jobs, the art of multi-tasking right about now. While it's made me indispensable it has also taken my time away. Time away from my children, time away from family, time away from my friends, time away from myself. I guess the up side is I am able to support my family with Richard not working and my children are now grown and seam well adjusted and happy. I have the ability to travel a little and see some things on my bucket list which brings me to my next topic. SOUTH DAKOTA.

I have to head to INDY for our EMR training. With all the new governmental regulations these days, we had to upgrade of electronic medical records which requires more training and I need to get trained so in turn I can train others. Sooooo on the way to INDY Richard and I are making a pit stop at.

Mt Rushmore. It is on my bucket list. I am super excited. WE will be there three days and will be hitting Custer state park, Jade Cave National Park, Bear Country and Cabelas store of course. On out last days we will be going to...

The city of DEADWOOD. Love the old western town . Then we are of to INDY.

I have rented Richard a Camaro to use while we are there and I am tied up all day and night.

He is going to Hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Gander Mountain and who knows what else. Should be a fun trip.

Week 34 done in project life. Was a little more challenging as i used a different divider on the left which changed it all up.

I have had a really rough week this week. Lots of ups and downs and a little reflection on myself that I didn't much like. I really could not wait till the weekend. For one I wanted to sleep in. That means past 4:30 am. Well made it to 5:30 am thanks to Pepper. She is staying with us while Garrett & Heather are in Monterrey for her sisters wedding. So got up and started cleaning up my happy place. I can't find my SD card for point n shoot camera. Ugh and as usual I have five projects going, mostly Xmas stuff already. With the hours I work I can't wait to the last minute. Anyway I headed to my tanning appointment, target to grab a couple of items and then homeward bound. I was starving. But what to eat. Richard said there is left over pot roast. I opened my mouth and said I didn't like the first time around (pot roast is just not my thing) why would I like it the second go around.

Well boy was I WRONG. He whipped me up this little beauty.

A little beef tostada. It was crispy and the pot roast was mixed with taco sauce and then he melted the cheese on the meet before putting it on the shell and topped it with lettuce, tomato and avocado. YUMMY. Just what a starving girl needed. Loved it. So now I am off to try to finish a project of too, I think a little Purple Rain might be in order.

Its early morning Saturday and I am up and adam early, partly because my grand puppy pepper loves to get up before the crack of dawn!! Anyhow heading to LA for some shopping with my twin Lindy and her two girls for back to school and Rachie coming along for some mama and daughter time.

Coming up quick my bowling league. My twin Lindy, her husband Kenny and I are on a team and Hong (little piggy) will join our team. Lindy and I feel our bowling is just not up to par cause we need shirts. The design I came up with is below. Hello Nine is our team name. Why, cause we are constantly bowling 9, where are the strikes UGH. So that's our name. Our shirts are gonna be HOT PINK, not the light pink below. Really love the king pin on the back and cute font for our names on the front. It matches our bowling shoes which are pink and black and of course my ball is Leopard and Lindy's is pink and black flames. I am totally sure this shirt is gonna improve our game!!!!!!!!!! We are getting them from embroidMe and the back is gonna be screen printed instead of embroidered as getting a big design embroidered is not cheap. So I will let you know how they turn out. Can't wait. Have a super fun Saturday.

Rachie moved back home last night. Things didn't quite work out for her in Long Beach and she needs to regroup. I feel for her. Being an adult is hard. Its hard to get your foot in the door and make your mark in the world when the door never opens. I am going to use this time to show her how much I love her and how proud I am of her. I know this minor set back really is God's way of pushing her into the right direction. Everything happens for a reason they say.....

I finished my week in the life book this weekend. It took longer than I though it would but feels good to get it done. Here is a look at the first two days. For the actual book I labeled it for 2011 and 2012 as I am going to use the same book next year and add 2012.

It's only Wednesday and I feel like I have already worked 40 hours. Well I have worked almost 30 and it's only Wednesday early am. Seems like work is unusually swamped and Tom needing more and mote of my personal attention with the patients he is seeing in the hospital. That puts my work behind causing longer than usual hours. So I will march on or "party on" as Candice likes to say. Tonight is massage night so I have something to look forward to!

Project Life | Week 30

This week has been super hectic, mainly because work was out of control and I was also participating in Ali Edwards Week in the Life. To top it off my weekend is full of all the things I can't do during the week and today I was on a jam and cupcake making mission.

So here is Week 30 side by side. As you can see I need to but haven't split my book up. I am going to put it in two albums as I have so many inserts it wont fit in one and I will put them in damask books that match my room. Not crazy about the album colors. I am so glad next year we can just buy the insides as I want to make my own.

This past week started with Richie's birthday, I made strawberry jam and we had the garage door replaced that Garrett and Pepper ran into. I had both my children in one place at one time and was able to snap one picture.

Below is the right side, showing my new mini instax camera that the kids bought me for my birthday, Richies birthday cake and the pattern for Garretts xmas stocking. The last picture was the phone and data trouble I had last sunday which took most of my day to correct stealing away my precious weekend.

This week was a fun week with Tommy gone to Hawaii and a little mix up on my routine.

Now if you didn't already know, Richard has a soft spot for his animals and his grand puppy. I tell ya one day I am gonna video tape him singing and talking to Roaree in the morning and everyone is gonna have a big laugh as its supper funny. We all know Pepper, our grand puppy can do no wrong. Well this cat here can't either and believe you me he has done a lot wrong and cost us $$$$$$$$. But he loves Richie and Richard thinks he is the cats meow. This coming for a cat hatter too. Roaree's different you know.... Everyday Richard walks outside and roaree comes up to him and meows and meows and walks over to the stool and brush and Richard will sit there for 10 mins or more brushing him Spoiled Cat. Oh well I guess there are worse things he could be doing with his time....

There was a little incident this weekend at the Welch Abode. Pepper came for two visits this weekend. She was super excited to see her grandpa. She was jumping up and down on her daddy's lap which is unusual. So Garrett jumped out of the car and let her see her grandpa. There was just one problem... He forgot to put his truck into park! Thus it smashed into the garage.! Look here, she feels sooooo bad.

Lesson learned., Do not let the puppy drive the car as they just don't have the attention span. But good thing for Garrett that grandpa was not mad at his special girl and all is forgiven.!!!!

I had to obtain some subs Monday for my bowling league and with much begging Richard and Garrett Agreed.

Richard looks thrilled doesn't he. The lighting in the bowling ally sucks and I only had Richard's point and shoot but they allowed one shot. So here it is. This night turned out to Richard and Garrett battling or should I say betting against each other. Well Garrett won but only by a few pins. Fun memories.

Project LIfe | Week Twenty-five

Project Life. I started this January 1, 2011 and I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The main reason is it is capturing more of my everyday life, my everyday moments. Things I would never jot down and capture I am. I haven't posted the pages much as I am having trouble getting pictures that capture it well. My house lighting is not good and I finally took these pics with my iphone. I am gonna keep trying to capture them better with a different lens next week I think. As above I almost always at least two times a month have an insert between the page.

Above is the left side showing fathers day. I journal a whole lot more in this project. It seems easier somehow. I don't always take a picture a day and fill it up with quotes I find or extra pics.

The back side of the insert I slipped Richards father's days cards and I stapled the sees candy ribbon onto it.

The right side is filled with some more pics, a insert from some prescription drugs I buy from Canada, a screen shot of my work inbox, a collage from my facebook page, a card from the DDS I had a root canal from and a tag from my dads new shorts.

Its alot of fun. I find easy to keep up as long as you do it at least every other day, which I do early in the morning. My family now is even gathering things for my book. Richard brings me cards from his favorite stores or a receipt from something he bought. Keep the book out and accessible and it is really easy. I am really really loving it.

Work is super crazy and I dont have much time, but I have just one week of project life to do to be all caught up to this week. Here are two from the White Pass Railroad in skagway which took us up to the yukon pass where all the goldrushers has to go in 1898. Dad loved the train trip. She fills My Mind and Heart Today

I am sure many thought today I would finally have time to download my 50 GB of Alaska pictures and post some of my wonderful trip. However something else, someone else fills my mind and heart today.

My BEAUTIFUL daughter Rachel or Rachie as I like to call her. She is leaving home today to move to Long Beach. I knew this day would come but I didn't expect it to hit me so hard. To fill my whole being with sadness and excitement all at once. She has left before but she was not leaving home, she was going to college first in Long Beach and then in England. I always knew she would come home. Today I look at her smiling face, I feel her excitement to start her new life as an adult but I am filled with loss. My baby, my sweet Rachel, off as an adult. This time she is not coming back to stay, maybe to visit but its not the same.

She packed up her belonging and loaded them up into the first car she bought on her own and headed out. I had left before her so she would not see how upset I was, how sad I felt, the tears coming down in sheets. I am sure another mother can understand, her dad thinks I am silly, but still as I sit to type this the tears return. Rachel is smart, beautiful inside and out, sweet, giving and unique. I know she will succeed. She knows I love her with all my heart. I am sure the pain will lesson with time. But for today, my thoughts are of Rachel. I love you Rachie and am so proud of you. You are the bravest woman I know. Your dreams, all of your dreams from your dream job, dream man and three children, including twins will come true. I just know it.

Happy Mothers Day

Mothers today is bittersweet. It's the first without my Mama. She never made a big deal about mothers day. I always remembered her, getting her something little to let her know how much I loved her. I hope she knew that. I miss her very very much, today more than ever.

We took Dad up to see her grave today and put some pretty flowers on her grave.

It was really chilly today. Hence the mismatched dress. It was hard on Dad. But alas its only been six months.

But I know she is in heaven and smiling down on us. She would love the flowers we got her. They smelled so pretty and showed how much we love her. What it showed me is to tell my two babies how much I love them, how proud I am of them and how perfect I think they are. I never want them to doubt that I know how much they love me.

Life here at the Welch Abode is never without Yummy food thanks to my hubby Richard. The Pioneer Woman is his new favorite cook second only to Paula Deen. Butter and cream are his two favorite ingredients. Richard takes my ipad each day and looks at her daily recipe. They are always good. Well two days ago I was looking at her site as I often do and came across these brownies called Knock You Naked Brownies . They looked delicious and I have had a tough couple of weeks and its just what I needed. I grabbed my ipad and ran into the kitchen and said look at these "Get You Naked Brownies" He stopped and looked at me and said well if it gets you naked I am making them. I started laughing.

So yesterday I came home and there they were. I can tell ya, they are good enough to get you naked. Gooey goodness. I could not wait to scarf down my dinner to eat this brownie. I had such a rough day yesterday, in fact for the past three weeks its been really really rough at work and just a little bit of chocolate and the day just got a little better.

When my mom was sick in the hospital before her death, I spent the night with her. The only thing those nights that brought comfort to me and to Lisa was my pink and brown leopard Minkie blanket that Suzanne Zingg from strawberry patches had made for me. It was soft, warm, comfort - Love. The day after my mom died I made my sister Lisa a minkie blanket of her own. She has slept with it every since. A month or so ago she mentioned to me that she needed a mini one so she could sleep with it during the summer and it would not be so hot, but she could still feel its comfort.

Well I headed to Strawberry Patches and picked up some minkie to whip her up one. Now I may be able to scrap and take a few photos, but sewing is not a forte. It was hard enough to make the big one and maybe this smaller one was a tad easier.

All I can say is that its filled with love every crooked stitch , but I am sure she'll love it and will be able to take it on our Alaska vacation with Dad as it will fit in her suitcase.!! I tell ya one thing, I am gonna have to take some sewing lessons before my grand kids come along!!!

SIX MONTHS

Six months ago my Mama went to heaven. I miss her everyday. Yesterday was a very bad day for my Dad. I thought he was doing okay then we watch a movie called get low and the ending just broke him down and he cried and cried uncontrollably. I felt so bad for him. Heartbroken for him. He still is grieving so much and I thought he was getting better but it just takes one thing to push you back over. He feels unworthy of being alive and felt he never did enough for mom. I reassured him that he did and was a wonderful husband and great father. I think he is better today and I hope looking forward to our Alaska trip in three weeks. I am gonna go visit mom on mothers day and will take him along. I think it will make him feel better. I miss you mama. So does Dad.

Grammy and Grandpa are babysitting this weekend. Its quite a challenge given the house full of animals we have. My goal is to get lots of pics, BUT that is going to be a challenge.

She is constantly moving, chasing, running. She does not sit still and most of my pictures are blurry, like the one above. But I love the composition of her reflection in the dresser. She was chasing chipper at this point. Plus when I get my big camera out she runs towards me and is too close to shoot. However my iphone is ok., So I will keep trying. Silly girl. She slept with richie, zoey, chole and I and got me up twice in the night. I am so glad I choose to have kids young, I could never do it now!!!!!! WE are leaving her in auntie Rachel's hands tonight while we go to Gourmet club tonight. Should be an interesting weekend.

I was still feeling somewhat under the weather Monday morning, not feeling myself still feeling a little nausea with a lingering headache just waiting for a migraine to start. I had been sick for two days not counting the five days of a nasty cold last week. I was going to stay home but alas the sick calls came in coupled with other staff already off with not enough people to cover the afternoon I had to go to work. I was a trooper as always though it was not easy. Then headed out to bowling since most of the team was gone I brought Rachie along to fill in. We are still in first place and I bowled my personal best of 176. So hopefully today will be a better day.

Friday started off okay. Work was as usual same old story, busy and working till five while others headed out early to start their weekend. I have to say that I want to be one of the lucky ones who get to head out early on fridays, but alas it still isn't happening. But I had happy hour to look forward to.

Went home early for a good nights sleep. I only had two margaritas, but had a cold and had some Sudafed on board as well. Woke up early 5 am Saturday. Got up made coffee and boom nausea hit me, then I spent two hours in the bathroom.

My dad said I was not as young as I used to be, hangover they thought. I thought OK maybe it was the sudafed and the tequila. I got up took a shower and tried to go to the petstore, Didn't make it, got worse barely made it back home where I stayed in bed till 5 am today. Migraine hit on top of the Nausea and vomiting and ugh. I have not had a migraine in years, I was too nauseous to be able to take something and suffered till early this am. I had to cancel my LA shopping trip today and hope I continue to feel OK today. When you only get two days off a week, to spend one in bed really sucks. I guess they are right I am not as young as I used to be. This balance I am trying to get in my life is not working out so well I think. I am going to have to try to work on it a little more.

My little grandpuppy, Pepsi as I am calling her, turned 10 weeks and in the spirit of things I went to take some more pics. I consider it training for when I have grandbabies. I am sure Heather and Garrett think I am nuts but alas I am allowed as I am a grammy. Grandpa (garrett hates Grandad) taught her how to use her doggy door this past week and she is a pro at it already going outside on her own to go potty. Just shows she has the Welch smarts. She is super lively and loveable. Richard goes and sees her every afternoon to play with her and teach her more things just like a Grandpa is suppose to do. I shutter to think what will happen when they do have babies, I may never see richard again unless he really does open Dicks Diner and Daycare, but he may need to change the title to Dicks Diner, Daycare and Doggy daycare LOL.

The Flower Fairy

The flower fairy. That's what he calls himself. Since January he has bought me flowers every week, sometimes more than one bunch of flowers per week. Rachel has been my soul focus these days. She is so BEAUTIFUL, courageous, smart, funny simply fabulous. She just bought her first new car and will be moving back to Long Beach in a couple of months. While I am feeling like my life has been out of focus, hers is bright and clear!!

Remembering

I took Dad to visit Mom today. The sun was shining and green was everywhere.

My dad was a little blue thou. He really misses my Mom, as do I. It has been five months.

He prayed for her, talked to her. Cried a little.

Was silent, remembering.

Reflecting.

Touching, feeling.

Was warm and full of memories.

Mt heart touched hers.

I said goodbye yet again.

Wished I had another day.

Said goodbye till the next time...

I stopped by and said hello and then goodbye to PA as well.

I drove away with my dad in tow knowing they were looking down from above, missing us too.

I am finding a bigger mix in my project life book. I am mixing pictures with STUFF. Stuff like receipts, netflix envelopes, tags etc. I enjoy the process.

Bowling In SD

Took my new bowling ball out for a spin in San Diego. Dad wanted to bowl as well which was a little technically challenging but we made due. It was a lot of fun, we laughed and laughed and Lisa beat us all. Will be giving my ball another spin tonight during league.

Garrett got this little cutie on Friday! She is a mini dachshund and she cannot be any cuter!!

And Grandma Cindy could not wait to see her and of course go buy her something!

She still is un-named thou. I hope it doesn't take him this long to name my grandchildren!!!! Such a little cutie!!!

Transradial Access

This past week, Tommy had an interview with Channel 17 news regarding his new approach for cardiac catheterization which is called transradial approach. The patients really love this approach, its more comfortable and the recovery period is much more pleasant. This process of documenting my life is really interesting in the fact that on this day my stress level was so high, trying to fit everything in, the cases, the interview, the filming not to mention all the patients that he had to see this day. You cant see it on his face, can't feel it when you watch the interview. I so wanted to journal this on my project but the truth is, he is doing the best for his patients despite that in the end, the longer time it takes to perform this procedure, the time it takes to train the staff, try and try all the new equipment and deal with the challenges that come up during the procedure only takes a toll on him. I see it, I feel it but he will never complain. He is self-less, he puts everyone else first and himself last. I admire his dedication, his commitment and sometimes I loose sight of all the good he is doing because I am tied up in the moment, the schedule, the patients waiting and the long hours we will have to put in that day. Oh sigh.

My Dads passport came. He is now ready for Canada!

I had lunch with Debbie Hankins this week. I went to nursing school with her and we were quite close during school. We sat down and it seemed like yesterday. Wow we never stopped talking the entire time. I left my camera a home and this ipic is not that good, but the memory makes up for it.

Still going strong, last week was week nine. Here is how it looks in the book. I have seven slots for pictures and eight spots for journaling or what not. I have been journaling more than ever in my life. Really gets out my frustrations.

I am really enjoying the process of documenting everyday life and feelings. I may have extra pictures or a do dad to put in a spot and some weeks I have an extra insert but all in all Loving it.

GETTING MY GAME ON

I have been bowling on a league on Monday nights with my Dad as my coach. My game is totally inconsistent. It has actually sucked the last couple of weeks. I have finally figured out what my issue was, my ball was just not right!

So here is my new bowling ball. I think it will help me get my game on.!!!! But of course I had to accessorize it a little.

Here are my cute new bowling shoes, and before you ask I could not find any leopard ones but link and black totally rock.

I'm Feeling Peachy

Monochromatic was how I was feeling yesterday. I felt Peachy and it continued throughout the day. I was dressed in ruffles and feeling girly. It just puts something in your step!!

I had lunch with Nancy as I knew it was a day she had all her girls in school. She and I have made an effort to spend more girl time together. To find balance in our lives between my busy work schedule and her hectic life as a mom of 3. We ate at the blue elephant restaurant and had a really good time. It really picked up my day.

Today I am off to have lunch with my son Garrett, and today I feel turquoise and yellow!

The Pioneer Man

I knew I was in trouble the minute Richard opened the cookbook he received from his sister for Christmas. The pioneer woman!! Just right up his alley. In fact last night he made a chocolate cake to die for, and I ate some Ugh. His cooking is good and fattening already, now he has more and more and more fattening recipes!! He is even following her blog OMG. Diet ugh, well I guess I will have to get some more will power and just eat less. DAM!

Balance

That is a constant thought in my mind these days. Balance. I need balance in my life. I need my hormones balanced, I need balance in my work and home life. I need balance between friends and family. I took this to heart this year and I now set aside time for friends, time for myself, time for family. Last night I met Nancy and a group of her friends at Cafe Med for wine tasting. I tasted a few, but ended up with my favorite drink there "pink panties martini". We laughed, talked and I learned a little about wine and taught Bo a new work (lol) It was a lot of fun. Can't wait till we get together again.
